It's starting to rain cold all over the country. There is also news of the first snow in the high mountains of Gangwon-do. Let me find out more weather information. I'm connected to the airport staff YTN disaster advisory committee. You're out, right?

[Airport Jin]
Yes, hello.

[Anchor]
How are you? When I saw it on my way to work, the rain fell a little and it seemed to gradually rain a lot. It is said that this rain is accompanied by thunder and lightning and is as strong as heavy rain in summer. How much does it rain?

[Airport Jin]
The rain is not unusual. It's raining in the west right now, and the areas where it falls a lot are pouring 20mm of rain per hour. Jeju Island is coming a lot, but the rain is gradually getting thicker on the west coast of Gyeonggi-do or Chungcheongnam-do. It is expected to rain a lot mainly from this afternoon to tomorrow morning until dawn, but the amount of rain in Seoul usually falls a month and a little more than 50mm in October. However, as shown in the table, the expected rainfall is about 20-60mm, so I think that the rain that will fall in Seoul a month is pouring this time.

In particular, heavy rains such as summer rain of 80mm or more are expected in many places, and one thing to be aware of is that strong rain of 20 to 30mm per hour is expected. So you have to be prepared so that there won't be any damage from the rain. In particular, torrential rain of up to 100mm is expected on the southern coast, including Busan, and up to 120mm is expected on the eastern coast of Gangwon-do, so you should prepare. Isn't it especially the time when fallen leaves fall these days? So, when the fallen leaves fall, there are cases where the sewage cannot fall out properly by blocking the drain. If you remove the fallen leaves, it is expected that the water can easily fall out. Before this rain, the rain has started, but the strong rain has not begun yet, so it is not too late, so you should do some maintenance now.

[Anchor]
Commissioner, do you usually get this strong autumn rain?

[Airport Jinjin]
When autumn rain is strong, it usually rains this strong when a typhoon comes, but it doesn't rain this hard in October. But the reason why it's raining so hard is because the weather was a little hot last week. As the temperature rises in the middle of the day, the cold air from the north is very strong in a state of a lot of heat. So, the strong cold air and the hot air staying in Korea collide severely and become very unstable. When it becomes unstable, it can create strong, very high, large rain clouds.

So when rain clouds are strong and high, the amount of water vapor contained in them eventually increases. And in particular, there is an air flow that supplies water vapor at a height of about 1,500m called a lower jet. Since the flow of air is expected to approach Busan, that is, to the south, there is a possibility of up to 50mm of such heavy rain per hour in Busan and Gyeongnam, which are likely to be affected by this lower jet.

So, it's raining in autumn, but it's probably raining like summer, so you can think of it as if you're preparing for it like it's raining in summer. So, the water may suddenly rise, so you should be careful of these usual trails on the southern coast of Busan and the eastern coast of Gangwon-do, where it is expected to rain a lot. First of all, it would be better to thoroughly prepare for habitual flooding areas where rainwater does not drain well in advance.

This rain was accompanied by strong winds. The instantaneous wind speed is more than 20m per second, isn't this typhoon-class?

[Airport Jin]
That's right. The standard of typhoons is defined as typhoons from 17m per second. So, 20m can be considered a small typhoon, but of course, it doesn't mean that the average wind blows, but it means that there are instantaneous gusts. If there is a momentary gust and a strong wind of 15m/s, you will probably experience many of these experiences, such as severe shaking of branches. In particular, if there is a momentary wind gust, the problem is that weak facilities can fly. Things like falling signage can cause secondary damage.

So, there doesn't seem to be any special danger around you while you're on the road, but something can fly and cause some damage to your body, so I think it can be a way to prevent secondary damage by firmly fixing facilities that are weak in the wind. In particular, very strong winds are expected to continue in coastal areas. Because of this wind, it seems that there will be high waves in the wind and waves, that is, in the sea. There is a high wave of up to 4m and the difference between the high tide and low tide is approaching in the future. So this can increase the height of the incoming tide as a whole. So, since the stream may cross the breakwater, it is better to be prepared especially on the coast so that there is no flood damage, and it is better to keep small ships firmly tied.

[Anchor]
It's not raining a lot yet, so you'd better prepare now. It's autumn leaves these days. It's raining a lot right now and it's accompanied by strong winds, so I think it'll drop a lot of maple leaves, what do you think?

[Airport Jin]
From this week, Gangwon-do is at its peak. So many people are probably planning to go see the fall leaves. Unfortunately, this rain is accompanied by a lot of rain but strong winds, which strengthens the trend of falling leaves, so there is a concern that many fall leaves may fall by shaking more. But actually, for those who watch autumn leaves, the daily temperature difference was large until last week, so autumn leaves are very good.

But I think you should postpone your plan to see such beautiful autumn leaves on the weekend. This is because the strong wind is the wind and the rain is blowing, and the problem is that the cold air comes in and gets cold. So you have to be careful about these things because it can harm your health. Of course, this weekend is the peak of Gangwon-do, so the peak of autumn leaves can go down little by little. So the south is expected to reach its peak sometime next week.

The daytime temperature seems to drop a lot as it rains, so how much will the morning temperature drop after tomorrow's rain?

[Airport Jin]
The current temperature in Seoul today is about 18 degrees. It's 17 and 18 degrees, but after the rain stops on Saturday, the minimum temperature drops to 9 degrees on Sunday. So, it can be said that it will drop almost 10 degrees in two days, but the problem is that the temperature in Seoul also drops significantly, but it is predicted that the temperature will drop to around 4 degrees Celsius in Yeoncheon or Yangju in northern Gyeonggi Province. But it's very chilly even in video 4. But when the wind blows, the temperature drops. So, I think the wind chill will fall below zero in the mid-north inland.

So, you have to prepare for things that affect as strong cold air comes down, but the problem is that the temperature drops significantly like this, and the rain that has been falling may freeze. So, in Gangwon-do, when the rain freezes, it freezes like thin ice. The reason why flesh is dangerous is because it is also called black ice, but asphalt is black. It's black, but it's hard to check if it's frozen when we see it.

So, when I suddenly left the tunnel, a series of collisions occurred due to the thin ice that suddenly formed. So when you go to a bridge on a high mountain or something like that, you should prepare for thin ice. Recently, some navigation systems have this kind of forecast. There is a forecast for the thin ice area, so if you use such a navigation system, you'd better use it well. Anyway, there is a lot of rain and strong winds with gusts in Gangwon-do this weekend, and when the rain stops, the thin ice is expected to freeze like this, so everyone who comes and goes needs special attention anyway.

As you pointed out, the rain could freeze. Looking at it tomorrow, there is a prospect that the first snow may fall on Mt. Seorak in the morning.

[Airport Jin]
The temperature is expected to drop by nearly zero degrees now. In particular, snow may fall at the height of 1,000m. So the first snow of Mt. Seorak fell on Oct. 21 last year. It was a little late, and in the year 21 and 22, the first snow fell on October 10-19, but now there are cases where the thoughts of the first snow are different. Of course, Seoraksan Mountain is not an official observatory, so it does not go on record, but the first snow is recorded only when it accumulates. So, when we talk about the first snow, there are times when we talk about the snow flying away.

In our view, some people say that the first snow seems to have come at the end of October, but most of the official snow and fairly accumulated snow fall after mid-November. This year, the temperature will change in Seoul, of course, in November, but we can carefully predict that the first snow will fall after about mid-November.

[Anchor]
There's news of rain next week, too. I think it will end when the temperature drops after the cool and mild autumn weather rains, but how long will it last?

[Airport Jin]
After the temperature dropped sharply on Saturday, the weather seemed to be clear for a while, but it is now expected to rain again next Monday and Tuesday. But this Monday and Tuesday, the clouds of rain come from the west, not from the northwest. So, it doesn't drop the temperature very much, but the temperature that has been a little hot during the day is expected to go away due to rain next week. The timing is now entering the end of October. In late October and now in November, if the temperature is in place, it will be difficult to feel the hot energy that I felt until last week.

So, the daily temperature range is expected to continue to be large as the daytime temperature drops around 20 degrees and the morning temperature drops around 10 degrees. Next Tuesday, after it rains, the typical autumn weather is expected to continue nationwide, but the daily temperature difference is continuously large, and the temperature change is such a large daily temperature difference. Your immunity is also low, so you should pay attention to your health care so that you don't catch a cold.

[Anchor]
According to the forecast for the month ahead, it will get a little colder from the second week of November, and according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), it will be cold below zero from December. By the way, people say that there will be an all-time cold wave of minus 18 degrees Celsius, so how do you predict it?

[Airport Jin]
Once the forecast is made based on the forecast made by the Korea Meteorological Administration, the month's forecast shows that the temperature will remain higher than usual until October, and the trend will continue to be similar to the average from November. Most of the temperatures we've been feeling recently were 2-3 degrees higher than the average year, so if you say it's similar to the average year, you'll feel like this has gotten a little colder. So when we go into November, it's a time when the temperature drops significantly.

So, lower temperatures than usual may come, so there are cases where temperatures will drop close to 0 degrees Celsius. So, in November, the temperature changes more than in October, you can see it like this. And the long-term forecast, so far only until December, and the three-month forecast is available, but December is likely to be similar to or lower than the average year as the Korea Meteorological Administration predicts. There is a 40% chance that it will be similar to the average year and a 40% chance that it will be lower than the average year. In total, it is 80% so there is a high probability that it will be low or similar, so if you look at it that way, there is a high possibility that the cold will come in December. According to the record, December is a little cold.

In the past 10 years, the temperature has risen a little because of warming, but compared to December, January, and February, the temperature in December is much lower. In the past 10 years, the lowest temperature for about 4 years was recorded in December. There are often days when it drops to minus 13 or 14 degrees Celsius, so you should prepare for the cold in December. And the outlook for January and February is still difficult. Because there are a lot of weather phenomena that the world is seeing for the first time.

It's also called the new normal, so everyone, it was very hot this year, but in Europe, there wasn't a lot of severe heat waves. And also, in Europe, there will be more hurricanes than usual in the case of the Atlantic Ocean. Very strong, of course, two major hurricanes went into the U.S. last week and left a lot of damage, but the number of hurricanes also decreased slightly. The number of typhoons affecting the Pacific Ocean has decreased, and isn't the method of affecting the Pacific Ocean very different? The typhoon that entered Taiwan last time weakened sharply.

Hurricanes also develop from grade 1 to grade 5, developing into enormous forces, and then quickly weakening. As we see these first-time weather events, forecasting the future becomes more and more difficult. I think it's a new normal while living in the era of uncertainty. So it's a little early to talk about the long-term outlook for January and February, but anyway, it will be lower than usual until December.

January and February are not yet forecasted, so it's hard to say clearly, but if we continue the recent trend, we don't know if there will be a day when it drops to minus 18 degrees Celsius, but wouldn't the cold continue for a few days strongly? Sometimes a strong cold comes along, so we can come up with such a cautious outlook that the overall weather will continue to be calmer than usual.

Let's stop here. I took a look at the weather with the airport staff YTN disaster advisor. Thank you.
