At least 26 people were killed and more than 160,000 evacuated when Typhoon Trami, No. 20, made landfall on the northeastern coast of the Philippines.

The Philippine Meteorological Department says Chami is moving westward across the northern mountainous region of Kodiyeera toward the South China Sea, accompanied by strong winds of 27 meters per hour.

Local officials say most of the typhoon's deaths were caused by landslides and flooding in Nagash and other central Bicol regions.

Local governments have ordered schools to close and urged companies to refrain from working amid persistent strong winds and heavy rains.

The Philippine government says more than 163,000 people have fled their homes to shelters, and most residents of the Bicol region have suffered waterlogging to their homes' ceilings.

In addition, many cities and villages are isolated by floods, and many roads are blocked by landslides, so the damage is expected to increase further.
