Pyeongtaek Mayor Chung Jang-sun, who was sent to the prosecution on charges of bribery by a third party, held a press conference and insisted on his innocence, saying, "I have never been asked to do anything wrong."
Mayor Jeong said that A, who was identified as a third party, was hired as a service because the company needed it, and that he never received an unfair request from the company.
In addition, it added that all matters related to the company's work were handled transparently through official documents and that there was no preferential treatment for the company.
Mayor Chung said that he now wants the prosecution to make a quick and fair judgment, as the police have failed to prove anything even though they have raided and searched several times over the past year and a half.
Earlier, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit sent Mayor Chung to the prosecution without detention on charges of bribery by a third party on the 4th.
The police have been investigating Mayor Chung, believing that he urged A, a close aide who worked in his campaign, to sign an unfair service contract between a subsidiary of Company B in charge of operating the center in the process of promoting the Pyeongtaek Eco Center project.
