An incumbent police officer who was put on trial for receiving back money by soliciting investigation was sentenced to prison in the first trial.

The Seoul Southern District Court today (7th) sentenced A, a team leader of Seocho Police Station in Seoul, to three years in prison and a fine of 54 million won on charges of bribery under the Specific Crime Weighting Act, and ordered an additional 28 million won in unfair gains.

The court pointed out that team leader A received money and gifts several times without any guilt while leaking investigation information from time to time, and revealed the reason for the sentencing that severe punishment is inevitable by tarnishing the reputation of the police organization and lowering the morale of other police officers.

Team leader A is accused of taking 30 million won worth of bribes from an official of a listed company where Lime Fund funds are invested, asking another police officer to cover up the company's embezzlement case.
