The number of passengers using international flights at local airports exceeded 15 million in January-October this year, recovering to 89% compared to 2019 before COVID-19.
According to aviation statistics from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the number of passengers on international flights at seven regional airports other than Incheon International Airport between January and October this year was 15.269,659.
Compared to the same period last year, the number increased by 51%, indicating that Gimhae Airport has the largest number of international passengers among the seven airports.
In addition, among the seven airports, Cheongju Airport showed the most growth this year, which was estimated to have been used by more than 1.235 million people between January and October this year.
It is a 3.5 times increase from the same period last year, and it is a 2.8-fold increase compared to the same period in 2019.
This seems to be due to the expansion of international flights by Air K, T'way Airlines, and Eastar Jet, which have Cheongju Airport as their base airports.
However, other than Cheongju Airport, no local airport has recovered to the extent that the number of international passengers from January to October this year has yet exceeded that of COVID-19.
