President Yoon Suk Yeol appointed Army Chief of Staff Park An-soo as martial law commander.Commander

Park is from the 46th Military Academy and was appointed as the Chief of the Army Staff in the personnel of the general last year.

Under the martial law law, the president appoints a general-level officer recommended by the defense minister among active general-level officers after deliberation by the Cabinet.

With the declaration of emergency martial law, all administrative and judicial institutions in the martial law area must be directed and supervised by the martial law commander without delay.

The martial law commander may arrest or detain, seize, search, reside, transfer, press, publish, rally, association or collective action when necessary for military purposes in an emergency martial area.

In addition, the authority to mobilize or requisition as prescribed by law, or to destroy or incinerate the property of the people in case of operational necessity.
