Since President Yoon Suk Yeol declared an emergency martial law at 10:23 p.m. last night (3rd), the National Assembly has released CCTV footage showing police control outside the National Assembly and martial law forces entering the compound, expressing strong protest.
At a National Assembly press conference, Secretary-General Kim Min-ki criticized the police for closing the outer gate of the National Assembly 30 minutes after the martial law was declared, and at the same time, the Ministry of National Defense also landed a helicopter 24 times to enter the compound of at least 280 armed martial law troops.
He then explained that after the National Assembly voted to lift martial law, the withdrawal began at 1:11 a.m. and all martial law troops withdrew at 2:03 a.m.
Secretary-General Kim pointed out that the act of illegally shutting down the National Assembly and illegally blocking lawmakers from entering the National Assembly under the Constitution and law hurt the people's hearts.
At the same time, the National Assembly Secretariat emphasized that it will thoroughly grasp the physical damage and losses caused by the martial law declaration and hold legal responsibility until the end of the offense.
