Teachers' organizations "Stop Introducing AI Textbooks Immediately"... "If Policy Flashes, School Confusion"

2024.12.26 PM 06:21
Teachers' groups reacted slightly differently to the passage of the "Amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act," which regulated artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks as educational materials.

The Joint Task Force on Aborting AI Digital Textbooks, which consists of more than 120 educational and civic organizations, including the Korean Teachers and Education Workers' Union, welcomed the passage of the amendment and said the Ministry of Education should immediately stop pushing ahead with the introduction of AI textbooks.

The Teachers and Labor Union Federation also said that AI textbooks should be tested first for effectiveness and that the selection should be left to school autonomy.

On the other hand, the Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations expressed concern that fluctuations in textbook policies depending on politics could increase school confusion, and urged the government and the opposition to come up with measures.
