AMD, a chipmaker considered Nvidia's rival, has introduced a new chip for artificial intelligence PCs.
AMD unveiled the "Ryzen AI Max" for AI laptops and the "Ryzen 9000 Series" for AI desktops at the "CES 2025," the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition in Las Vegas.
AMD said the Ryzen AI Max series offers the best performance on thin and light laptops and will handle AI tasks up to 90% faster than previous generations.
AMD said these processors will make AMD-based personal PCs the best product for running AI software, stressing that they will be used for some of Dell Technology's business customers.
Dell is a server and PC manufacturer that uses AMD chips in consumer products, but this is the first time that AMD chips are also installed in corporate PCs.
Given that Dell has been using Intel products on corporate PCs, the expansion of AMD's supply will hurt Intel, which is experiencing poor earnings, Bloomberg analyzed.
Although Intel has a roughly 70% share of the global PC processor market, it has been struggling in recent years due to falling sales and the cost of developing new technologies.
AMD has been viewed primarily as a low-cost, low-performance option in the competition with Intel for decades, but it has recently accelerated its pursuit as Intel remains sluggish.
