The Nobel Prize in Economics went to three American economists.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Azemorlu, Johnson, and Professor Robinson of the University of Chicago are the main characters who have studied economic inequality between countries.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said it awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in recognition of its work in studying how systems affect the country's economic prosperity.

[Jacob Svensson / Chair of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences Economic Sciences: Reducing the income gap between countries is one of the biggest challenges of our time, and groundbreaking research has given us a much deeper understanding of the root causes of failure or success in countries]

Professor Azemoelu from Turkiye has already been considered a strong candidate for the Nobel Prize, winning the John Bates Clark Medal, called the preliminary Nobel Prize in Economics, in 2005.

In particular, "Why the State Fails" written with co-winner Professor Robinson is well known in Korea because it emphasizes that an inclusive economic system leads to a country's prosperity, citing South Korea and North Korea as examples.

Co-winner Professor Johnson also had a special relationship with Korea as his wife is a Korean-American.

These scholars, who have emphasized the role of democracy in economic growth, have voiced concern about the upcoming U.S. presidential election after winning the Nobel Prize in Economics.

Referring to the case of former President Trump's disobedience to the presidential election in 2020, he stressed that the democratic system was challenged.

[Daron Azemorlu, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) / Nobel laureate in economics: Support for democracy is at an all-time low, especially in Greece, the United Kingdom, and France, as well as in the United States. I think this is a symbol of people's disappointment with democracy.

[Simon Johnson/MIT Professor: (The 2020 presidential disobedience and incitement to attack Congress) is an act of undermining democracy in historically different situations and means undermining the economic foundation of common prosperity. So we'll have to wait and see what happens in November.]

Professor Robinson also said that former President Trump rejected democratic rules in the last presidential election and said he was concerned about the presidential election.

If Vice President Harris is elected, the Nobel laureates of economics have warned that the foundation of democracy critical to economic development could be shaken as former President Trump is likely to disobey the results of the presidential election again.
