As the kimchi-making season approaches, not only pickled cabbage sold at large discount stores but also kimchi on the market are being sold out.

Cabbage prices are still higher than usual, and the government says prices will stabilize as supply increases next month.

There is a notice in the vegetable section of a large supermarket that some pickled cabbage is out of stock.

Consumers who bought kimchi cabbage in advance and consumers who haven't bought it yet are also worried.

[Purchaser of pickled cabbage / Dangsan-dong, Seoul: Buy 20kg of cabbage, 40kg cheaply, but the question is how good the product is.]

[Jeon Myung-joo / Yangpyeong-dong, Seoul: (The pickled cabbage company) said that the price will change a little, and that it could go up a little.]

Although cabbage wholesale and retail prices are said to be stable, consumers are turning to discounts on pickled cabbage at large supermarkets at a time when they are still higher than usual.

This month, pre-order sales of pickled cabbage at large supermarkets have tripled from a year ago.

In particular, all 30,000 boxes of pickled cabbage, which was sold for 29,000 won for 20kg, were sold on the first day of sale.

In another large supermarket, consumers flocked to make advance reservations, leading to a so-called "open run."

Demand for kimchi from online and home shopping is also increasing due to the perception that it is cheaper to buy and eat.

TV home shopping companies are selling out early this month, with packaged kimchi sold out within five minutes of broadcasting.

Some online shopping malls have run out of cabbage kimchi items.

There are many consumers who want to delay making kimchi until the price of cabbage falls further.

[Lee Geum-ja / Yangpyeong-dong, Seoul: If you buy it when you have the highest shipment, you can buy it cheaper because it goes down a little bit. I'm going to buy it while looking at it.]

The government plans to supply 24,000 tons of cabbage and 9,100 tons of radish to the market and support up to half-price discounts to lower the consumer burden during the kimchi-making season.

The government predicts that if the supply of cabbage increases from next month, the price will fall to the average level, and attention is being paid to whether it will quell the controversy over "gold cabbage."
