In Jeju, the heat wave and tropical nights last summer caused great damage to the tangerine shells.

Jeju's agricultural authorities are receiving damage from red-flavored farms to compensate for disasters.

Disaster subsidies are expected to be decided as early as the end of this month.

KCTV Jeju Broadcasting Kim Junghoon Lee reports.

It is a red-flavored farm classified as a high-end fruit among persimmons.

It's about to harvest, but it's hard to find a lot of fruits.

Fruits hanging from some branches often fall off weakly even with the slightest touch or tear of their shells.

Last summer, the long-running heat wave and tropical nights caused "heat" damage that caused tangerine shells to burst during the growing season.

Red-flavored farmers urged the agricultural authorities to come up with measures, saying the heat and damage rate was 83 percent based on their own findings.

[Oh Byung-guk / Chairman of Jeju Red Hyang Research Association: Farmers are seriously threatened to make ends meet, let alone pay for loans and agricultural materials that will be repaid in the future.]

Red-flavored farmers affected by such heat and damage are expected to be able to receive disaster compensation.

This is because the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs recently decided to accept Jeju Island's suggestions for supporting the heat and damage of manicures.

Accordingly, Jeju Island receives full-fledged damage reports from farmers.

Jeju Island predicted that the amount of support and standards will be determined according to the size of the damage as early as the end of this month after conducting a detailed investigation from the 12th to the 14th.

[Jeju Special Self-Governing Province official: We have basic data on three years' worth of production, so based on that, for example, 100kg should be produced, but if it seems that only 50kg can be produced, 50% of the affected farms should admit that they suffered damage, so we are trying to take it based on that....]

Red incense and other persimmons have been designated as crop disaster insurance items since 2019, but there have been no cases of compensation for damage caused by heat.

Again, disaster support funds are expected to be used to compensate for the damage.

However, Jeju Island carefully expects that the heat and damage investigation will also improve the standards for crop disaster insurance.
