After the Korea-Peru summit, President Yoon Suk Yeol will explain the contents of the meeting directly through a joint press release with Peruvian President Voluarte.

The two countries decided to expand cooperation in the defense and infrastructure sectors and adopted a memorandum of understanding and an agreement.

We will connect to the site of President Yoon's presentation and listen to it directly.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / President]
When the Korean War broke out on the Korean Peninsula in 1950, the Republic of Korea and Peru had not even established diplomatic relations. But Peru didn't hesitate to provide supplies for the war. I and the people of the Republic of Korea remember Peru as a grateful friend. Since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1963, the two countries have developed a solid cooperative relationship in many ways, transcending geographical distance.

The Korea-Peru FTA came into force in 2011, and since 2012, we have developed a comprehensive strategic partnership. Based on this successful history of cooperation, President Voluarte and I discussed in depth measures to strengthen solidarity and cooperation between the two countries today.

First, the two countries decided to further expand cooperation in the defense and defense sectors. Starting with the export of 20 KT-1P basic trainers in 2012, the two countries have continued close cooperation in defense. This year, our company was selected as a strategic partner of the Peruvian Army and Navy, and we decided to pursue core projects together.

Today, President Voluarte and I signed together a plaque to attach to the vessels our company builds at the Peruvian shipyard. This plaque will be a testament to the defense cooperation partnership between the two countries that will deepen in the future. In addition, today, we signed a total of three MOUs and agreements in the field of defense, including the MOU on joint production of KF-21 components, the MOU on joint development of naval ships (submarine) and the General Agreement on the Cooperation of Army Ground Equipment. This will serve as a catalyst to accelerate cooperation between Korea and Peru in all directions.

Second, we have decided to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries based on the significant increase in trade and investment since the Korea-Peru FTA entered into force in 2011. President Voluarte and I have decided to strengthen infrastructure cooperation between the two countries so that Peru can become a transportation and logistics hub in Latin America while successfully completing the ongoing construction of the new airport.

Meanwhile, the MOU on core mineral cooperation signed today will serve as a priming water for Korea, a technology powerhouse, and Peru, a resource-rich country, to deepen mutually complementary supply chain cooperation. Thirdly, President Voluarte and I have decided to strengthen technical cooperation and human exchanges in order to expand the base of future partnerships between the two countries.

Based on the MOU for Korea-Peru ICT cooperation and the MOU for Korea-Peru Digital Government Cooperation Center signed today, cooperation in ICT and digital transformation between the two countries will expand in multiple layers. Despite their geographical distance, more than 14,000 South Koreans visited Peru in the past year alone.

The MOU on tourism cooperation signed today will further expand the contact between the people of the two countries. Fourth, President Voluarte and I have decided to strengthen strategic cooperation at the Asia-Pacific and global levels. Our two leaders condemned North Korea's provocative acts that threaten peace and security in the world and the non-proliferation regime, and reiterated the North's complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.

In particular, Peru supported the goal of achieving the unification of freedom, peace and prosperity in the joint declaration of the two countries today and welcomed our August 15 reunification doctrine. President Boluarte demonstrated his leadership for prosperity and integration in the Asia-Pacific region through the successful hosting of this year's Lima APEC Summit. As the chair of APEC next year, Korea will take over Peru's achievements and gather the wisdom of each country to realize an Asia-Pacific region of common prosperity.

I hope that Korea and Peru will move forward together into a brighter and stronger future, faithfully implementing the matters discussed and agreed in today's summit and joint declaration. I would like to thank President Boluarte, the Government of Peru and the people of Peru once again for their warm hospitality. Thank you.
