Israel is fiercely attacking deep areas of Lebanon's territory even as it negotiates a ceasefire with Lebanese militant Hezbollah.

According to CNN on the 16th local time, Israeli forces advanced from Beirut to the south of Chama the night before.

CNN pointed out that the advance is considered the deepest case of Israeli forces infiltrating local territory after entering a ground war in southern Lebanon early last month.

Lebanon's state-run NNA news agency reported that Israeli forces entering the country destroyed the Simone Al-Safa holy site here.

Israeli forces then launched heavy airstrikes in Dahiye, a southern suburb of Beirut known as a Hezbollah stronghold.

The attack comes as Lebanon is considering a cease-fire proposed by the United States and Israel.

CNN, citing Lebanese officials, reported that U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson delivered a proposal for a ceasefire to the Lebanese government on the 14th.

"Negotiators are optimistic that Hezbollah will agree to the terms of the ceasefire," he said.

Lebanese officials said the government was expected to submit an official response on the ceasefire on the 18th local time.
