Supreme Court confirms life imprisonment for Choi Won-jong, a murderous criminal in Bundang

Choi Won-jong, the "Bundang stabbler" who killed two citizens and injured 12 others, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court today (20th) confirmed the original ruling that sentenced Choi Won-jong, who was arrested and charged with murder, to life imprisonment.

Choi Won-jong is accused of driving a vehicle near Seohyun Station on the Suinbundang Line in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, killing two people, and entering a nearby department store and wielding a weapon against nine citizens in August last year.

Earlier, the courts of the first and second trials sentenced Choi Won-jong to life in prison, saying he should completely isolate him from society and prevent him from reoffending as a deprived prison life.

In response, the prosecution objected to Choi Won-jong's mental and physical weakness at the original trial, citing that life imprisonment was too light a punishment, and that Choi Won-jong should be recognized for mental and physical loss and that the sentence was too heavy.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed both appeals and confirmed the sentence, judging that there was no problem with the original ruling.
