Regarding Ukraine's claim that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile and ICBM on Ukrainian territory for the first time, the U.S. media reported that it is not an ICBM but an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
Citing two U.S. officials, the Associated Press reported that the initial assessment of the U.S. was that Russia used intermediate-range ballistic missiles, IRBMs, not ICBMs.
AFP said U.S. officials said Russia's missile fired at Ukraine was not an ICBM but an experimental intermediate-range ballistic missile.
The official also said Russia could try to use this capability to scare Ukraine and its backers, but would not be a game changer in the war.
Earlier, Ukraine's air force said Russia had fired ICBMs south of Dnip, a city in the Middle East of Ukraine, and that it was the first time Russia has used an ICBM in the war.
