Mitsubishi, Nippon Steel Co., Ltd. Forced to Work...Court "Reimbursement to Victim 100 Million"

Another court ruled that Japanese companies should compensate victims of forced labor in Japanese colonial era for damages.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled today (29th) that Japan Steel should pay 100 million won each in a lawsuit filed by two people, including Choi, against Japan Steel.

The same court ruled the same in a damage suit filed by another victim, Mr. Yang, against Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Choi and others are known to have worked forcibly at the Kamai City Steelworks and Yahata Steelworks in Japan between 1941 and 1945.Mr.

is said to have been forcibly mobilized by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagoya Aircraft Manufacturing Station in 1943.

Kim Young-hwan, head of the Institute for International Cooperation of Korean Studies, told reporters after the sentence that the government is making "third party reimbursement," but he said that nothing has been realized about 50 rulings on compensation for forced labor from last year to this year, and is considering enforcement.
