The Women's Movie Association announced on the 4th that it has selected actor Ra Mi-ran for this year's Women's Film Awards.

The Women's Film Artists Association announced the winners of the 2024 Women's Film Artist of the Year Award, the Women's Film Artist of the Year Award, and the Kang Soo-yeon Award.

The winner of this year's Achievement Award was Professor Joo Jin-sook, honorary professor at Chung-Ang University, the winner of this year's Women's Film of the Year Award was the film "Citizen Deok-hee" Ra Mi-ran, and the winner of the Kang Soo-yeon Award was the film industry crisis overcoming film industry.

Honorary professor Joo Jin-sook is a leading Korean film scientist and female film expert who served as president of the Film Critics Association and president of the Korean branch of the International Film Criticism Federation. From 1992 to 2018, he was a film major professor in the Department of Performing Arts and Creation at Chung-Ang University, and since 2018, he has served as the director of the Korea Film Archive, building an informatization system in line with the changes of the times and striving to digitize data.

In particular, she is one of the key figures who led the birth of the Women's Film Council. At the 1999 Busan International Film Festival, she raised the need for a women's film group and devoted herself to establishing a women's film group in April 2000. At the end of that year, she published the book "The Women's Movie Dictionary," a vast work that restored the history of female filmmakers from the 1950s to the 1990s with filmmakers such as Jang Mi-hee, Byun Jae-ran, and Lee Soon-jin.

In 2001, she led the production of the documentary "Beautiful Survival," directed by Lim Soon-rye, and left a record of female filmmakers proving their own survival in film history. The Women's Movie Association said, "We selected him as the recipient of the Achievement Award with respect and gratitude for his efforts to grow and develop female filmmakers."

As for actor Ra Mi-ran, the winner of this year's Women's Film Awards, he said, "I have filled and changed Korean movies with various faces for a long time. The Kang Soo-yeon Award is an award given to filmmakers who contribute to the development of Korean films and open the future together in the acting, directing, scenario, production, and staff sectors of the film industry, regardless of gender, and awards 5 million won in prize money under the sponsorship of Yongin Park.

The film industry's crisis overcoming film industry, which receives the Kang Soo-yeon Award, was launched in July this year with the aim of solving unfair problems in the film industry, spreading the value of independent and art films, guaranteeing freedom of expression and professional rights of filmmakers, and practicing cultural democracy and creating a gender-equal culture. Screening organizations that communicate directly with audiences, such as independent art cinemas, film festivals, cinematographers, and staff, as well as film associations by job, such as directors, writers, production companies, producers, cinematographers, and staff, and film organizations by agenda, such as women's films, independent films, local films, animations, and criticism, are working together to find a common future.

He explained that he was selected as the winner of the Kang Soo-yeon Award because he highly appreciated that it was not an individual group's interest, but a solidarity activity that agonized and acted for the benefit of the movie audience along with the common interests of the film industry.

The 2024 Women's Film Festival, which marks its 25th anniversary this year, will be held as the 2024 Women's Film of the Year Award ceremony, which will highlight filmmakers who have performed remarkably during the year, and will be hosted by actress Moon So-ri at 7:30 p.m. on the 16th at IndySpace.

The winners were selected by the 2024 Female Film of the Year Nominee Selection Committee for theatrical releases and OTT original films from November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024. Among them, the acting award and the rookie acting award are selected by combining the opinions of members and board members of the Women's Film Artists' Association, which consists of female filmmakers working in the field.

Along with the Achievement Award, the Female Film of the Year Award, and the Kang Soo-yeon Award, the Producer Award, Director Award, Screenplay Award, Acting Award, New Director Award, New Actor Award, Documentary Award, Technology Award, and Publicity Marketing Award will be awarded in a total of 12 categories. The winners of the best female films in 2024 will also be announced soon.
