It has been confirmed that President Yoon Suk Yeol, who said he would fight impeachment and investigation, submitted a motion to the National Assembly to appoint a Supreme Court justice.
After the announcement to the public yesterday, he seems to be exercising his authority one after another after 40 agendas were approved.
I'm connecting with the reporter.
Reporter Cho Yong-sung, when did President Yoon submit an appointment motion to the National Assembly?
[Reporter]
Yes, it's understood to be yesterday.
According to the National Assembly's agenda information system, President Yoon issued a public statement yesterday, approved 42 bills, including bills that passed the Cabinet meeting, and submitted a "consensus on the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Ma Yong-ju" to the National Assembly.
In the motion, President Yoon said he is asking for consent to appoint a successor to the Supreme Court in accordance with the Constitution as one Supreme Court justice's term expires on the 27th.
At the same time, he revealed the reason for the request for appointment of candidate Ma as an orthodox judge who has devoted himself to faithfully guaranteeing the people's right to trial with extensive legal knowledge and excellent judgment.
In this regard, an official from the President's Office explained that it was in accordance with the legal procedure at the request of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Earlier, in a statement on the 7th, President Yoon expressed his intention to step down to the second term, saying that he will entrust the ruling party with future political stability measures, including the term of office, and that the party and the government will take responsibility for state affairs.
However, the exercise of authority continues.
Since then, it has accepted the resignation of former Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min, approved the Cabinet's agenda, and asked the National Assembly yesterday to approve the appointment of a Supreme Court justice.
It is also interesting to exercise the right to demand reconsideration of the fourth Kim Gun-hee independent counsel law and the civil war independent counsel law, which passed the National Assembly led by the opposition party yesterday, and the National Assembly's second vote on the impeachment of the president is expected to be a variable tomorrow.
Since the two bills have not yet been transferred to the government, it is virtually difficult for President Yoon to directly veto them if the impeachment bill of President Yoon is passed tomorrow.
Six bills, including the National Assembly Act and the revision of the National Assembly Testimony Appraisal Act, which have already been transferred to the government, were requested by Kwon Sung-dong, floor leader of the People's Power, a little while ago to exercise the president's right to request reconsideration,
We cannot rule out the possibility that President Yoon will hold an extraordinary State Council meeting to exercise his right to demand reconsideration before the re-decision of the impeachment bill at the National Assembly tomorrow afternoon. If President
Yoon is suspended without vetoing these bills, acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo may veto them.
So far, I'm YTN Cho Yong-sung in the presidential office in Yongsan.
