OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, "Chat GPT Father," is donating $1 million to the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Fox News reports.
Prior to Altman, Mark Zuckerberg, a meta platform that runs Facebook, and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, also donated $1 million each to improve relations with Trump.
"President-elect Trump will lead the United States into an age of artificial intelligence and wants to support Trump's efforts to help the United States stay ahead in the AI race," Altman said in a statement to Fox News.
Unlike Zuckerberg and Bezos, Altman doesn't donate through OpenAI, but directly with personal money, Fox News said.
Altman has not had any direct clashes with Trump, but OpenAI has recruited people from the Democratic Party, including Aaron Chatterjee, acting deputy director of the Biden administration's National Economic Council, ahead of the last presidential election.
Also, his relationship with Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk, Trump's closest ally, is so bad that he is being sued over the for-profit pursuit of AI technology.
Bezos, who is also the owner of the Washington Post, a U.S. daily newspaper that has supported the Democratic Party, fell out of Trump's favor due to a series of critical reports by the Washington Post.
However, he tried to restore relations with Trump even before the presidential election, risking headwinds in the last U.S. presidential election and blocking the Washington Post's editorial support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
After Trump won the presidential election, he publicly congratulated him on social media, and earlier this month, he publicly said he would help Trump ease regulations.
Bezos will also visit Mar-a-Lago, Florida, home to Trump next week for dinner with Trump.
Zuckerberg reportedly made the decision to donate before having a dinner with Trump on the 26th of last month.
Trump claimed Zuckerberg's large donation to nonprofits ahead of the 2020 presidential election was a plot for his defeat, and Zuckerberg suspended Trump's use of Facebook in the wake of a 2021 Congressional storm by Trump supporters.
