Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday it had blocked a series of assassination attempts by Ukrainian intelligence officials against a high-level Russian defence ministry soldier and his family, detaining four Russians involved.
They also explained that they were captured by Ukrainian intelligence and tried to kill senior officials with bombs disguised as gifts, auxiliary batteries and documents.
"I brought the package from an abandoned building at the request of an acquaintance living in Poland," a detainee said in an interrogation video released by the Federal Security Service. "It was a gift for a Russian defense official, but I was arrested by an FSB agent and could not hand over the package."
Russian media said they were Russian citizens living in Ukraine, captured by Ukrainian special authorities, disguised as deportees, and arrived in Moscow to prepare for a terrorist attack.
The TAS news agency reported that more than 40 arson and explosions have occurred in various parts of Russia in the past 10 days due to phone scams from Ukraine.The media outlet
explained that Russians recently committed acts such as throwing firecrackers and firebombs at shopping centers, banks and public places at the direction of their phone counterparts to retrieve the stolen money.
