In connection with the disaster at Muan Airport, Acting President Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance, set January 4 as the national mourning period.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok made the remarks after expressing his condolences and consolation to the victims and their families at the 3rd Central Disaster Countermeasures Conference held at the Seoul Government Complex today (29th).
In a related development, Choi said he would set up joint memorial altar in 17 cities and provinces, including Jeollanam-do, Gwangju, and Seoul, and raise flags at all ministries and public institutions.
Choi, who declared Muan-gun a special disaster area, added that he would set up an integrated support center at the site, manage funeral and psychological support for the bereaved families, and designate a dedicated public official.
He also stressed that he will clearly identify the responsibility for the accident through the Central Accident Management Headquarters prepared by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and disclose the details to the bereaved families and the public quickly and transparently.
