European leaders expressed their condolences and consolation to the bereaved families of the victims and the Korean people in connection with the Jeju Air plane disaster at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do.
European Union and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on social media that she was "heartbroken" after hearing about the plane crash and that she expressed her deepest condolences to the victims' families and the entire Republic of Korea.
"As your partner, Europe stands with you at a time of grief," he wrote.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also wrote on social media, "We have heard the terrible news that many deaths have occurred in the plane crash in Korea," adding, "We express our condolences to the bereaved family and wish the injured a speedy recovery."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said, "The accident at Muan Airport in South Korea has claimed countless lives," adding, "Losing lives is an unfathomable tragedy."
He added, "On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I express my sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the victims of this accident, the Korean people, and the acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok."
