It is expected to take more than a month to decipher the black box, which is considered the first step in determining the cause of the Jeju Air plane disaster.
According to the Aviation Railroad Accident Investigation Committee on the 29th, the flight data recording device (FDR) of Jeju Air's 7C2216 plane was confirmed to have been collected with some damage to its appearance.
An official from the Korea Railroad Commission said, "The control room voice recorder (CVR) was collected as it was, but the FDR was partially separated," adding, "It seems that it will take a long time to decipher the FDR." I think it'll take a month."
It is said that detoxification is possible within a week if the two devices are intact without any problems.
As a result, the overall investigation work will inevitably be disrupted.
This is because air accident investigations take months to years, and the early stage of FDR and CVR deciphering determines the direction of the entire investigation.
If the FDR damage is severe, it may have to be left to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate, which is expected to take more than six months to decipher the black box.
"If it is difficult to analyze in Korea, I think we should take it to NTSB," another Korea Railroad Commission official said. "It takes time because there are cases waiting for NTSB from all over the world."
FDR and CVR are 'black boxes of aircraft' that play a key role in determining the cause of aviation accidents.
FDR records and preserves the three-dimensional flight path of an aircraft and the operation status of each unit with signals such as digital, magnetic, and numerical.
The FDR analysis allows you to determine the altitude, speed, and posture of the plane, the movement of the control surface, the thrust of the engine, the operation of the landing gear, and the angle of the flap (high lift) that comes down when landing.
If the FDR is a device that informs the movement of the plane, the CVR allows you to know the situation inside the plane, and the CVR records conversations between crew members in the cockpit, communications between controllers and crew members, and various warning sounds in the cockpit.
The CVR records the last two hours until the engine stops and the FDR records the last 25 hours of flight data.
FDR and CVR are mostly installed on the tail of the gas to minimize impact in the event of a crash.
In this accident, the aircraft was burned to the point that it could not be shaped, and the tail compartment remained in shape.
