Last year, the advent of innovative obesity treatment Hugo Bee and AI Nobel Prize were major issues in the scientific community.

While artificial intelligence is expected to take off again this year, private-centered space development achievements and climate change responses are also drawing attention.

Reporter Park Na-yeon pointed it out.

This year, the scientific community will see a boost in private-centered space development around the world.

First of all, Korea will launch the fourth launch of the 'Nuri' at the end of this year and enter the 'New Space' in earnest.

The previous three launches were led by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, but from this fourth launch, Hanwha Aerospace will participate as a comprehensive system company to lead the entire launch process.

If Nuri, which carries the next-generation medium-sized satellite 3, succeeds in the fourth launch, it is expected to pave the way for entering the domestic and foreign launch service market.

[Choi Sung-hwan / Dr. from the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute] (In this Nuri space), a science payload will be loaded and launched. This observer will observe the aurora. It is also planned to be widely used in space environment research. And we are preparing for special use in the international community.]

The role of the private sector is expected to grow not only in domestic but also in overseas space exploration.

Japan's iSpace will launch a lunar lander this month through a mission called "Venture Moon," while the U.S. Intuitive Machines will send a lander to the moon's south pole to analyze material below the moon's surface.

With Trump's return to power, which claims climate change as fraudulent, "climate change response" is also a notable scientific issue this year.

Trump once again vowed to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement following the first phase, expressed antipathy to existing climate policies such as renewable energy, and promised to revive fossil fuels.

[Donald Trump / U.S. President-elect (last October): We will quickly become energy independent. We will be mining, mining, mining, and drilling. We'll drill, drill, mine, mine, mine.]

This year is the year 198 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including South Korea, have to submit their 2035 carbon emission reduction targets,

Korea has also faced a golden time to respond to climate change because the basic law on carbon neutrality, which was ruled inconsistent with the Constitution, must be revised by February next year.

In the case of AI, as technology leaps accelerate this year following last year, it is expected that it will become essential in daily life and work.

In particular, "AI agents" who make decisions on their own, act and learn are active, and the use of AI is expected to increase in science and medical research.
