Last year, Korea's defense industry exports amounted to $9.5 billion, half of the $20 billion initially targeted.
According to data submitted by the Office of the People's Power Yoo Yong-won from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, defense exports peaked at $17.3 billion in 2022 before falling to $13.5 billion in 2023 and $9.5 billion last year.
Earlier, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration set a target of $20 billion for defense exports early last year, but lowered it to $15 billion in the second half of the year.
Yoo analyzed that the second contract for Poland's K2 tank, which is expected to reach between $7 and $8 billion, was not made, so the total defense exports amounted to $9.5 billion.
