It is an argument that the current presidential system, which has exposed its limitations several times, should be reorganized, but the ruling and opposition parties have repeatedly shown temperature differences amid different counting methods.

On the last day of last year, it was the issue of constitutional amendment that the seniors of the ruling and opposition parties gathered together.

As the whole nation has realized the limitations of the "five-year single-term presidential system" due to the impeachment situation that has come again, it is now necessary to go beyond discussion and actually revise the constitution.

This atmosphere is spreading among active politicians, but the constitutional amendment was not missed even in the New Year's message of National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik.

However, the Democratic Party of Korea, which holds the key to the constitutional amendment with an absolute majority of seats in the National Assembly, and Lee Jae-myung, the leading presidential candidate, maintain a cautious attitude.

It is argued that now is the time to consider impeachment trial and restoration of constitutional order first and secondly rather than constitutional amendment.

say that those who take out even the 'dog' of the constitutional amendment are 'insurrection sympathizers'.

However, as the Constitutional Court, which put out the urgent fire and established an 'eight-member system', approaches the conclusion of the impeachment trial, the pressure to clarify its position on the constitutional amendment is expected to increase.

Earlier, during the last presidential election, Lee insisted on a constitutional amendment to the "four-year two-term system."

It is true that there are many consensus in civil society and academia that the current presidential system, where power is concentrated, should be fixed this time.

In the end, it is pointed out that politicians should step up, but if the actual discussion on constitutional amendment materializes, how to narrow the differences over the timing and method of constitutional amendment will be the key.
