Kim Myung-soo, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discusses ways to promote military cooperation with NATO's military chairman.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo shared his assessment of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and discussed ways to promote military cooperation in a coordinated call with North Atlantic Treaty Organization and NATO military chairman Rob Bauer today, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff reaffirmed the principle that the two sides oppose the change of the illegal status quo by force and agreed on the need to expand continuous communication and cooperation to maintain rule-based international order.

Chairman Kim stressed the urgent need for a joint response from the international community, including NATO, saying that North Korea's nuclear and missile threats and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea are posing significant challenges to world peace and stability.

Bauer explained the agenda to be discussed at the NATO Military Commission Defense Ministers' Meeting to be held from the 15th to the 16th, asking for South Korea's interest and support for NATO and cooperation, the Joint Chiefs of Staff added.
