2025.01.07 PM 03:20
As health insurance finances continued to remain in the black for the fourth consecutive year, cumulative reserves reached a record 30 trillion won.

The National Health Insurance Corporation said its health insurance income was 99.87 trillion won and expenditure was 97.36 trillion won last year, with a current account surplus of 1.7244 trillion won based on cash flow.

Last year's surplus was smaller than the previous year, but considering the 1.484.4 trillion won in advance payments to training hospitals that suffer from financial difficulties after leaving their majors, the surplus will increase to 3.288 trillion won, the corporation explained.

The current account balance recorded a surplus for the fourth consecutive year, following KRW 2.8 trillion in 2021, KRW 3.6 trillion in 2022, and KRW 4 trillion in 2023.

Due to a series of surpluses, cumulative reserves also increased to the largest ever, reaching 29.722 trillion won as of the end of last year.

The health insurance reserve is a resource to cover insufficient insurance benefit costs, and a certain amount is accumulated every year.
