New York Stock Exchange's Top 3 Indexes Fall Together...Tech sell-off impact

2025.01.08 AM 07:04
All three major indexes of the New York Stock Exchange fell as technology stocks were sold in disappointment with new products from U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker Nvidia.

By the close of the day on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones 30 Industrial Average closed at 42,528.36, down 0.48% from the previous session.

The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 closed at 5,909.04, down 1.11% from the previous session, and the Nasdaq Composite plunged 1.89% to 19,489.68.

The move is attributed to weaker expectations for a key rate cut due to hotter-than-expected prices, a rise in U.S. Treasury yields and a stronger sell-off of tech stocks due to disappointment in new Nvidia products.

It is also interpreted that while the U.S. service industry index remained expanding, the price index exceeded expectations.
