Pacific Palisades Forest Fire in Buchon, LA, USA...the rapid spread of strong winds

2025.01.08 AM 10:04
A wildfire broke out in the Pacific Palisades area of California, the United States.

According to the California fire department, the wildfire, which broke out at around 10:30 a.m. local time on the 7th, spread through strong winds.

In about three hours, the damaged area increased to 772 acres (3.12㎢), and by about 6 hours, at 4 p.m., it increased to 1,262 acres (5.1㎢), which is larger than Yeouido.

In addition, about 26,000 residents of more than 10,000 households were ordered to evacuate at risk, the LA Fire Department said.

The area is lined with large mansions overlooking the beach and is home to Hollywood actors and the rich.

The direct cause of the forest fire has not yet been identified, but the rapid spread of the fire is blamed on gusts of wind in the L.A. area.Dubbed

Santa Ana', this strong wind is a local gust from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the California coast, which occurs frequently in the fall and winter months.

It is also called the 'Devil Wind' because it blows almost at a hurricane-force speed and it is difficult to predict the wind direction.

Wind speeds in the L.A. area this afternoon were estimated to be up to 80 miles per hour (about 129 kilometers).

Weather officials warned that such strong winds could break power lines or overturn large trucks, trailers and camper vans.

According to the Associated Press and other U.S. media, President Joe Biden was scheduled to attend an event announcing the establishment of a new national monument in Riverside County, east of L.A., but strong winds in the area postponed the schedule.

According to CNN, Southern California Edison, a company that supplies electricity to the L.A. area, began preemptively shutting off power to about 8,600 homes (including commercial facilities) that day, considering fire risks.

The company is also considering cutting off electricity to more than 400,000 additional households.

Experts analyzed that Southern California, including LA, has not received more than 2.5 millimeters of rain since the beginning of May, and continued dry conditions are also raising the risk of wildfires.

Earlier in the middle of last month, a large wildfire broke out on Malibu Beach in northwest L.A., not far from Pacific Palisades, destroying a number of homes and evacuating thousands of residents.
