The Czech government, which is pursuing the construction of Korean nuclear power plants, said it welcomes the signing of an agreement and MOU between the Korean and U.S. governments on the principles of nuclear power plant export and cooperation.

"We welcome the agreement between the U.S. and South Korean governments on cooperation in the nuclear sector, including export controls," Czech Industry and Trade Minister Lukasz Vulczek wrote on social media, especially regarding the Dukovani new nuclear power plant project.

The South Korean and U.S. governments said in a joint press release yesterday (8th) that they will provide a framework for cooperation between the two organizations to expand private nuclear power generation in a third country while strengthening both countries' export control management of private nuclear technology.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. was selected as a preferred bidder for the Dukovani nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic in July last year, but is in dispute with its rival Westinghouse of the United States over original technology intellectual property rights.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok spoke to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala yesterday and asked for cooperation in nuclear power projects.
