Private Jack Theseira, the culprit of last year's leak of confidential documents from the U.S. Department of Defense, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the Associated Press reported.

On the 12th local time, federal court judge Indira Talwani Mesa Tenchu sentenced private Tessaira, who was charged with violating the Espionage Act.

Private Teseira was arrested in April last year and put on trial for spreading hundreds of military secrets on the Internet.

Among the confidential information leaked by Private Teseira was a number of top-secret U.S. government secrets related to the war in Ukraine.

It has also been controversial at home, including a wiretapping document recording a call between South Korean officials in the president's office over the issue of supplying artillery shells to Ukraine.

Private Teixeira is an airman from the Massachusetts National Guard Squadron who maintains his communications network, claiming that he only wanted to share information with friends online.

Private Teseira is considered the most serious security incident since the WikiLeaks revelation in 2010, when more than 700,000 documents and videos related to U.S. military and diplomacy were released, local media said.
