The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said that the Liberation Association has not approved the application to rent the Seoul National Cemetery for the National Day of patriotic martyrdom, which was scheduled to be held on its own tomorrow.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said, "Day of patriotic martyrdom was established by the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in 1939, and the government inherited it after liberation and designated it as a government anniversary to hold the event."
He also explained that the Liberation Day event is considered an alternative event that differs from the existing government anniversary and does not approve the use of the Seoul National Cemetery.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will hold the 85th National Veterans Day event at the Daejeon National Cemetery on the 17th, and separately, the Liberation Association decided to hold a joint memorial ceremony for independence fighters and applied for the rental of the Seoul National Cemetery to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
The Liberation Association and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs have recently been at odds due to controversy over the appointment of the Independence Hall of Korea and holding separate Liberation Day events.
