The Democratic Party of Korea claimed to have secured a recording of Myung Tae-kyun's conversation that A, a candidate for the head of a local government in 2018, handed a large amount of money to Rep. Choo Kyung-ho, the current floor leader of the People's Power, to win the nomination.
The recording of the conversation between Myung and Kim Tae-yeol, director of the Future Korea Research Institute, released by the Democratic Party of Korea, contained Kim's remarks that A, who is running for local elections in 2022, said, "Rep. Choo ate 20 during the 2018 local elections, so if he doesn't give it this time, he will doubt it."
When Director Kim reported to Myung that "A's side offered to throw 10 checks to Choo instead," Myung agreed.
In fact, Mr. A won the nomination in 2018, but failed to win the nomination in 2022.
In response, the Democratic Party said that it is highly likely that the plan fell through because A was eliminated from the nomination, but argued that the recording that he provided 20 to Choo in 2018 requires an investigation into those involved.
Mr. A reportedly denied that he had ever met Mr. Myung, saying that the relevant information was not true at all.
