Justice Jeon Sung-bae, who is suspected of receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in money and valuables in exchange for local election nomination, was put on trial without detention.
The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's joint investigation team on virtual asset crimes announced today (10th) that it has indicted Jeon without detention on charges of violating the Political Fund Act.
A prosecution official said Jeon was inevitably indicted without detention due to the imminent expiration of the seven-year statute of limitations.
Prosecutors believe that Jeon took 150 million won in bribes during the 2018 local elections, saying he would allow a candidate who ran for the Liberty Korea Party candidate for Yeongcheon Mayor in North Gyeongsang Province to win the nomination.
Earlier, the prosecution requested two arrest warrants for Jeon, but the court rejected them one after another.
