In September, the cyber investigation team of the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency arrested a man in his 20s who posted on the Internet that he would go on a deadly rampage at Yatap Station in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, and requested an arrest warrant.
Mr. A is accused of posting on the bulletin board of an anonymous Internet community site on September 18 that he would attack people with a weapon at Yatap Station at 6 p.m. on September 23.
A police investigation revealed that A was an employee of the site, and it was found that he posted to promote the site and increase the number of visitors.
The police also investigated illegal activities on the site and arrested the operator and two employees on charges of assisting in uploading various illegal posts, including information on pornographic sites.
Police said they are also considering claiming damages, saying that A's notice of a deadly rampage wasted public power, including 529 police officers and armored vehicles being deployed around Yatap Station from September 19 to the 6th of last month.
The police stressed that they will continue to arrest anyone who posts threatening messages that cause anxiety to the public by using all tracking techniques.
