The emergency committee of the Korean Medical Association has urged the government to stop recruiting medical schools for the 2025 academic year.
The emergency committee of the Korean Medical Association, which held its first meeting last evening, said it is impossible to educate up to 7,500 medical students in an environment capable of educating 3,000 medical students.
In addition, the president, prime minister and ministers will not be present later, but medical students and professors will suffer from the aftereffects of more than a decade due to the breakdown of medical education.
The emergency committee said it would strongly resist and fight the government's medical monopoly, stressing that it would hold those responsible accountable until the end.
Park Hyung-wook, chairman of the emergency committee, said, "At the meeting, there was no emergency committee member who wanted to discuss whether to participate in the Yeouido-jeong consultative body, and the common opinion is that the current consultative body is meaningless."
He also added that two medical organizations, including the Korean Medical Association, which are participating in the consultative body, would like to take off their heavy burdens and come out of the consultative body.
