The Democratic Party of Korea urged the ruling party to explain, saying it was revealed that a supporter suspected of paying for Mayor Oh Se-hoon's poll during the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-elections tried to cajole Myung Tae-kyun.

Cho Seung-rae, a senior spokesman, made the remarks at a briefing, mentioning the recording of a phone call with Mayor Oh's sponsor Kim, which was released through the media by Kang Hye-kyung, a former employee of the pollster Mirae Korea Research Institute.

According to the released transcript, Kim said on the phone with Kang Hye-kyung in September, "Let's give 1 billion won to Myung and discuss it whether you're in prison alone or not," and said, "We can't kill Myung Tae-kyun to kill the power of the people."

The Democratic Party also claimed that the Yeouido Institute, a public power think tank, was found to have signed a public opinion survey service contract with the Future Korea Research Institute in the past, adding that it is doubtful that the government handled political funds by packaging the amount of money for Myeong as a service.
