The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said the crisis is escalating in Ukraine, where Russian airstrikes are continuing, with nuclear power plants cutting power generation but disrupting power supplies for cooling.

The IAEA said in a statement today (29th) in the name of Secretary-General Rafael Grossi that it found that all nine operating reactors in Ukraine had lowered output after yesterday's massive airstrike.

At the same time, he explained that the power line supplied from outside to the nuclear power plant was also damaged to maintain the reactor's cooling function.

The IAEA said there was no direct damage to nuclear power facilities from the Russian military's airstrike on energy infrastructure, but called for military activities to be refrained as much as possible in areas with power generation facilities.

Ukraine's energy infrastructure is very weak and nuclear safety is also at great risk, he said, adding that nuclear power plants must receive safe power from external power grids.
