On the last day of 2024, Russia launched airstrikes with missiles and drones throughout Ukraine.

Foreign media reported that Russian forces attacked Ukraine's capital Kyiv and northeastern Sumy around 3 a.m. local time today (31st).

Authorities in the city of Kyiv said at least two explosions were heard, explaining that missile fragments shot down by air defenses fell on Darnitsuki District, but no damage was reported.

In the area near Sumy, 12 residential buildings and two school facilities were partially damaged.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military said today that it had shot down a Russian Mi-8 helicopter in waters west of Crimea.

The intelligence bureau under Ukraine's Defense Ministry claimed the attack was the first time it had used a maritime drone to shoot down an aerial target.
