E-Mart has decided to suspend the sale of Stuy's clothing products and refund them after controversy arose over the sale of fake clothing.
E-Mart said on the 7th, "We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the controversy over the fake products sold by our company," adding, "We preemptively stopped selling the products at the time of the controversy, and we are quickly proceeding with the full refund process for customers who want a refund."
The controversy erupted earlier when a fashion YouTuber claimed that a Stush sweatshirt product purchased directly from E-Mart Traders was judged false by the Korea Luxury Appraisal Board and Cream, a platform specializing in resell.
The controversial sweatshirt product has been sold by a partner company that has set up a stand in Traders since November last year. The regular price was worth 179,000 won, and it was sold at 99,000 won on Traders.
At the time of sale, the tag said "parallel imported products" along with the product number.
According to YouTubers, the Korea Luxury Appraisal Board, which inspected the product, said that the logo finish, main label, care label, and components are different from the original. Cream also said, "We judged the product as fake according to the inspection regulations."
E-Mart said it cannot confirm the authenticity of the product at this time, but it has decided to make a pre-emptive refund for customer convenience. Refunds are around 1,000 points.
An E-Mart official said, "We will faithfully carry out appropriate follow-up measures according to the results of the verification," adding, "With this incident, we will further strengthen the quality control and inspection system for products at partner events."
This is not the first time E-Mart Traders has been controversial for selling fake clothing. In December 2023, the Moncler padding, which was sold in stores, was found to be fake, and all the products sold were recalled.
