The Jeju District Prosecutors' Office indicted hospital director A, hospital official B, and Chinese person C without detention on charges of illegally attracting foreign patients.
Mr. A and others are accused of illegally attracting 17 foreign patients from August 2023 and receiving about 100 million won in medical expenses, and Mr. C is accused of pocketing about 12 million won in fees.
It has been confirmed that the hospital has attracted 600 million won in foreign patient care costs through unregistered companies over the past two years, which is six times the cost of patients' care through formal companies.
In order to attract foreign patients, not only medical institutions but also attracting businesses must register with local governments.
The prosecution said that the Jeju Provincial Police Agency secured clues in the case of arresting C in September last year and investigated him directly to catch additional hospital officials.
