Telegram to provide personal information for 658 Korean users last year

2025.01.08 PM 03:03
It has been confirmed that Telegram provided information on Korean users who violated the terms of use, including the distribution of deepfake sex crime videos, to our law enforcement authorities.

Telegram's official channel, Transparency Report, said it received 270 requests from our government last year and provided the Internet protocol addresses and phone numbers of 658 users.

He also explained that the move is based on a policy that allows law enforcement authorities to provide personal information for those involved in crimes who violate the terms and conditions of using Telegram.

Telegram has previously provided relevant information only to some countries, including North America and Europe, but since CEO Pavel Durov was arrested by French law enforcement, Korea has also been included in the "Transparency Report" list.

Previously, the Korea Communications Standards Commission discussed cooperation with Telegram to block deepfake sex crime videos, and held a face-to-face meeting with a senior Telegram official in September last year.
