Yonsei University has awarded an honorary doctorate in press and public relations and imaging to Bang Sang-hoon, chairman of the Chosun Ilbo.
Yonsei University held a degree ceremony for Chairman Bang at Yongjae Hall at Yonsei University at 3 p.m. on the 29th.
About 150 media figures and guests, including Yonsei University Chairman Huh Dong-soo and President Yoon Dong-seop, attended the degree ceremony. Yonsei University explained, "It is recognized for its contribution to the development of press freedom and journalism over the past 50 years." Chairman Bang said, "The honorary doctorate degree comes as a deep encouragement and pride to me as a journalist who has been with the Chosun Ilbo for half a century."
Chairman Bang, who joined the Chosun Ilbo as a foreign correspondent in 1970, took office as CEO in March 1993 after serving as a correspondent in the U.S. The Chosun Ilbo held a board meeting on March 4 and appointed Bang Sang-hoon, then CEO of the Chosun Ilbo, as its chairman. It has been 31 years since he took office as president.
