221,000 New U.S. Unemployment Claims...slightly overstated expectations

2024.11.07 PM 11:30
The U.S. Labor Department said there were 221,000 new unemployment claims last week, up 3,000 from a week ago.

That's just over 220,000 expert projections compiled by Dow Jones.

The number of "continued unemployment benefits" claims filed for unemployment benefits for more than two weeks was 1.892 million weekly between Oct. 20-26, up 39,000 from the previous week.

New unemployment claims increased significantly in early and mid-October due to hurricane "Hurlin" and "Milton" damage and then slowed again.

Wall Street is paying close attention to the U.S. job market trends, with concerns still lingering about the U.S. economic outlook.
