A Booyoung house has been convicted of failing to comply with a local government executive order to clean up contaminated soil at the planned theme park site.
On the 25th of last month, the Supreme Court confirmed the lower court's fine of 10 million won to the Booyoung Housing Corporation and its CEO, who were accused of violating the Soil Environment Conservation Act.
The Supreme Court explained that the judgment of the court below was not beyond the limits of liberalism or misunderstood the relevant laws.
Booyoung Housing purchased the former Songdo amusement park land in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon in 2015, and promoted the construction of a theme park, but the project was suspended two years later after a large amount of waste was found on the ground.
In December 2018, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, issued an executive order to clean up the contaminated soil within two years in Booyoung House, but when it was not implemented, it filed a complaint against the corporation and others.
Since then, the first and second trials have been fined one after another, saying that it is necessary to punish the area and degree of contaminated soil.
