Prosecutors have sought the death penalty for a medical student who was put on trial for stabbing his girlfriend to death.
The prosecution asked the court to sentence a man in his 20s to death at a final hearing held at the Seoul Central District Court today (8th).
Choi was arrested on May 6 for stabbing his girlfriend several times to death on the roof of a building near Gangnam Station in Seoul.
Choi was found to have committed the crime out of spite when he was asked to separate from the victim's parents after it was revealed that he secretly registered his marriage with the victim in April.
Earlier, the victim's father attended the court as a sentencing witness in August and insisted that "Choi killed her daughter when she planned to marry for the victim's wealthy family environment, but it went wrong."
Choi was attending a prestigious university medical school in Seoul after receiving a perfect score on the college entrance exam in the past, but was expelled from the university after the crime was revealed.
