Hwaseong City, with a population of more than 1 million, has officially launched as the fifth special city in the country.It has been a special city in 23 years since the promotion of

city, and Hwaseong-si has the administrative and financial authority equivalent to that of metropolitan cities.

Mayor Chung Myung-geun and city council officials will gather in the lobby of Hwaseong City Hall to hold a signboard unveiling ceremony to commemorate the launch of the special city.

Hwaseong City, which had a population of 210,000 at the time of its promotion to the city in 2001, has grown to a large city with a population of 1.04 million in 23 years.

It is the fifth special city designation in the country after Suwon, Yongin, Goyang, and Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do.

The special city will have 17 administrative and financial powers while maintaining its status as a basic local government.

As a representative example, the building permit authority is expanded.

Until now, buildings with 21 floors or more needed approval from the governor of Gyeonggi-do, but in the future, buildings with a floor area of less than 200,000 square meters under 50 floors can be handled by the city itself.

The recognized income of social welfare benefits will also increase from 85 million won to 135 million won.

The scope of beneficiaries who can receive welfare benefits such as basic pensions and pensions for the disabled has expanded.The city of

announced that it will issue more than 500 billion won in local currency this year, the first year of its launch in the special case, and push for customized development in Dongtan and four regions: eastern, western, and central.
