Many questions are arising over the death of Yoo Byung-eun, the de facto owner of the sunken Sewol ferry.

The police chief of Suncheon City announced yesterday (Tuesday) that the body of the long-time fugitive Yoo was discovered on June 12 in a plum orchard in the city, located about 300 kilometers south of Seoul. The National Forensic Service has reconfirmed that the results of a DNA test show the corpse is that of the 73-year-old Yoo, who owns the operator of the doomed ferry.

However, the investigation into Yoo's death since finding the body has prompted many suspicions. For instance, Yoo's decayed corpse was found as many as 40 days before yesterday's police announcement.

Other questions come from what the police have identified as Yoo's belongings, including several bottles of alcoholic beverages.

Yoo was known to be an abstainer.

Also, the eyeglasses Yoo used to wear were missing, as well as a fairly large sum of money Yoo might have carried.

So far, the police have ruled out the possibility that Yoo was murdered.

However, some crime experts disagree, saying there are many suspicions of this being a homicide case.

The experts are also blaming the police for having failed to take proper steps in handling Yoo's death.
